Shanghai Waigaoqiao Culture and Art Center Project is located in the E-03 block of Waigaoqiao New Town, located in the center of Waigaoqiao New Town, east of Zhangyang North Road, north of Zhouhai Road only 100 meters, and close to the station of Zhouhai Road of rail transit Line 6. In 2006, Tianhua won the bid for the Waigaoqiao Culture and Art Center in Shanghai, and the 10-year journey began. As for the area where Waigaoqiao Culture and Art Center is located, the government hopes to develop it into the central business district of Waigaoqiao, including business offices, hotels, business centers, conference centers and so on. The owner hopes to create a comprehensive cultural and art center that includes cultural performances, conferences, reports, film and television screenings, culture, science popularization, art exhibitions, book reading, mass cultural activities, etc., so as to activate the future development of this area. The project is close to Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, 6 kilometers away from Waigaoqiao port terminal. Taking into account the positioning of Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone for international trade, modern logistics, advanced manufacturing, etc., the architects hope that Waigaoqiao Culture and Art Center can extend the image of the international gateway of the region and become a representative "container" of the urban cultural life of the region. The architect uses simple and concise techniques to reflect the architectural characteristics of the harbor style of the cultural and art center. With the intention of "container stacking", which is unique to the port, the contrast between the building volumes is expressed by glass and metal materials to strengthen the visual impact of the architectural form while ensuring the energy saving requirements of the daily operation of the building. Through the rich indoor and outdoor space, more possibilities are brought to the urban life of the area.
